Installation of underground steel storage tank

Underground steel storage tank on concrete slab base
Having decided on a tank farm to meet your requirements a pit is excavated of suitable size and location. The base is a slab constructed of 150mm reinforced concrete and extends 300mm minimum outside the tank line (Drawing A). Concrete retainer walls may be constructed. The tank is lifted into position and secured with holding down straps making sure that the tank is level both vertical and horizontal. The tank should now be filled with water. Following the supervised hydraulic test the tank can be back filled. The tank must be encased with pea gravel, washed sand, urea amino plastic foam (or concrete*) to a depth of 150mm excluding the manlid the pipe work contractor now completes the installation. The manhole chamber is completed and the surrounding area is topped up with hard core and a reinforced concrete slab at ground level is poured.
*Subject to draft code of practice 2000 exclusion.
